As a staff developer for the 4th largest school district in Texas, I have come across various programs, books, and online professional development. To begin this year, our department had to read a little book called
The Energy Bus, by Jon Gordon.
It is not unusual for our department to be at the forefront of book studies in our district – we are the department in charge of professional development after all. So, when we were given our next assignment, we all were a little skeptical. We were wrong.
I highly recommend The Energy Bus to anyone. It is a great look at how positive energy can affect your life. It is about personal empowerment and simple rules that help you live a better and more productive life, thus creating a better and more productive organization.
I know what you are thinking…”another darn self help book?! – really, Raul.” But I promise this will not disappoint. We have used it to create a culture of positive energy in our department, and it is working. In tough economic times – especially for public school districts – we had to remind ourselves that we were still in control of our day to day. It was a great lesson to learn.
Jon Gordon provides great resources on his website to help you out on your journey. I promise this book does not disappoint. Get on the bus!!!
